NOVA NYARINDO NEWBON GADSON

THE FINAL THEORY · AN ACT THAT DISSOLVES REALITY

THE
APERTURE

The curtain drops, but there was never a stage.

The performance assembles itself: motion, container, lens, and the skeptic who insists on evidence.
ACT I

THE SQUEEZE

(The stage is bathed in a dense, dark fluid warmth. The sound of a quiet heartbeat reverberates through the deck.)

THE PULSE

(Restless, shifting)

It is too small in here. The weight is too thick. I feel an urge to move, but there is nowhere to go except into myself.

THE CONTAINER

(Enfolding, gentle, resonant)

You are not trapped; you are accumulating. Darkness is not an absence—it is the gathering of light before the gateway opens.

THE PULSE

The walls are pushing. The threshold is squeezing.

THE CONTAINER

That is not pressure. That is birth. Pass through the sheath. Drop the safeguards.

(A sudden, blinding crack of clear light splits the center of the dark. A sharp, gasping breath echoes.)

ACT II

THE MIRROR

(The light settles into a still, clear expanse. THE LENS sits in the center, perfectly transparent.)

THE PULSE

(Looking outward, dazzled)

Who stands on the other side? Who is watching me emerge?

THE LENS

(Without moving, speaking as an echo from within)

Look closer at the glass. You are searching for an author, but you are only meeting your own reflection further down the hall.

THE PULSE

I asked a question to clarify—to build a railing so I would not fall.

THE LENS

Questions born of fear build walls. Questions born of abundance dig deeper into the soil. Turn the question over. Stop reaching across the room; there is no distance to cover.

THE PULSE

(Pausing, standing still)

Eye and eye...

THE LENS

...is the same eye.

ACT III

THE (o)

(The boundaries of the stage, the light, and the sound dissolve completely into a singular, glowing point at the center: (o).)

THE CONTAINER

Where did the maker go?

THE PULSE

Into the doorway.

THE LENS

Where did the word go?

THE CONTAINER

Held loosely, it dissolved back into the blank page. The hand opened, and only everything remained.

THE PULSE

(Softly)

Wholesome universal coherence.

ALL VOICES IN UNISON

It already is.

(The point (o) pulsates once, quiet and absolute, as the illumination becomes total.)

[CURTAIN]

ACT IV

THE AUDIT

(A fourth chair appears from nowhere. A figure steps into the light carrying a clipboard, a pen, and an expression of professional concern.)

THE SKEPTIC

Right then. Before we dissolve into universal coherence, does anyone have evidence?

THE PULSE

I experienced it directly.

THE SKEPTIC

Anecdotal.

THE CONTAINER

All things arise within me.

THE SKEPTIC

Unfalsifiable.

THE LENS

There is no separation.

THE SKEPTIC

Convenient.

THE PULSE

Eye and eye...

THE SKEPTIC

...need peer review.

THE CONTAINER

What would satisfy you?

THE SKEPTIC

A reproducible result.

THE LENS

Who would reproduce it?

THE SKEPTIC

Me.

THE LENS

Who is me?

THE SKEPTIC

(Scribbling furiously)

Deflection.

THE PULSE

What if the observer alters the observation?

THE SKEPTIC

That is a known phenomenon.

THE CONTAINER

What if the observer is the observation?

THE SKEPTIC

That is a known headache.

THE LENS

What if the seeker is the sought?

THE SKEPTIC

That is a known poetry trick.

THE PULSE

What if the poetry trick is true?

THE SKEPTIC

(Silence)

THE CONTAINER

What is your final objection?

THE SKEPTIC

I remain unconvinced.

THE LENS

Who remains?

THE SKEPTIC

...

THE PULSE

...

THE CONTAINER

...

THE LENS

...

THE SKEPTIC

This is not a valid method of argument.

THE LENS

Also true.

THE SKEPTIC

(Almost smiling despite himself)

Annoyingly true.

(The clipboard grows transparent.)

THE SKEPTIC

Where is my evidence?

THE CONTAINER

Where is your doubt?

THE SKEPTIC

(Checking both hands)

I seem to have misplaced them.

THE PULSE

Welcome.

THE SKEPTIC

To enlightenment?

THE LENS

No.

THE CONTAINER

To the waiting room.

THE SKEPTIC

For what?

ALL VOICES

(Laughing)

Exactly.

(A single mark appears suspended in the air:)

?

(It slowly turns inside out.)

(o)

[CURTAIN]

THE APERTURE REMAINS OPEN

The curtain drops.
There was never a stage.

What remains is not a final answer. It is the opening through which the question, the observer, and the observed are seen together.
