Walk lightly.
Peace begins with the weight of an encounter. To walk lightly is to avoid making another person carry the force of our certainty.

02 Β· THE MOVEMENTS OF PEACE
The prayer moves between light walking, open contradiction, truthful maps, patient revelation, durable connection, and the changing needs of rest and motion.
Peace begins with the weight of an encounter. To walk lightly is to avoid making another person carry the force of our certainty.
Contradiction does not have to become combat. It can become the opening through which another observation enters.
A map can be useful without becoming the territory. Peace preserves the distinction between what we know and what is.
Revelation has its own time. Peace does not force reality to appear early in order to make us comfortable.
Misunderstanding is real, but it need not be final. The relationship is allowed a life beyond the present confusion.
Peace is not permanent inactivity. It listens for which movement is called for now: rest when rest is needed, motion when motion is called for.
03 Β· THE AGREEMENT BENEATH THE ARGUMENT
The final turn does not force a βyesβ or a βno.β It notices that the meeting itself may already contain an agreement more fundamental than argument: that each is present, that each sees, that each may continue.
Truth is not made more true by a scaffold of performance. The prayer returns it to what remains when the scaffolding comes down.
