The map is not the terrain, but it can help us travel.
THE SECOND THEORY · THE HUMAN FIELD
A Legion
Wearing One Face.
The person you meet is real, but never the whole cast. Beneath the face, many archetypes wait to speak.
“A person is a legion of archetypes, with one convinced it is the whole at any given time.”
THE PICTURES ARE THE CAST LIST · THE PLAYS ARE THE MISCHIEF
Meet the archetypes.
Then let them start talking.
The images on this page map the roles inside the legion. The complete plays reveal what happens when the cast gets loose: hilarious, whimsical comedies full of interruptions, arguments, terrible timing, surprising tenderness, and the occasional attempt at diplomacy. If the portraits are the cast list, Substack is the stage.
THE SURFACE AND WHAT MOVES BENEATH IT
The Face and the Legion.
The two people in this work could be anyone. One of them could be you. The portrait is not offered as the complete self. It is the visible surface, the face through which a wider council becomes visible.
Beneath that surface are recurring roles: the Hero, Lover, Creator, Sage, Innocent, Explorer, Ruler, Caregiver, Jester, Rebel, Magician, and Everyman. They are not fixed identities. They are temporary governors of attention, need, memory, fear, and possibility.
What this image shows
This chart names twelve recurring human roles and the qualities through which they appear. The point is not to assign one permanent type, but to make the shifting cast easier to recognise.
TWO PEOPLE · MANY VOICES
The Meeting.
First, two people meet. Before there is a myth, there is a room: a question, an objection, a defence, a joke, a request for evidence, a plea for calm, and the feeling that everyone is somehow right and incomplete at once.
Then the ordinary meeting opens into myth. The same argument appears at a larger scale: human voices join divine figures, ancestors, animals, sun, moon, and the Child who refuses to let the meeting end.
What this image shows
This is the architecture of a human meeting. Each archetype speaks from its own responsibility and fear. The Child calls the room back with “Again!”—not because nothing changed, but because return is how understanding continues.
What this image shows
The ordinary council expands into mythic scale. Divine figures, archetypes, humans, animals, and symbols share one table. The meeting does not resolve once and for all; it remains open because life continues.
EVERY MAP · ONE REALITY
The Final Act.
Now the room becomes the world. Religions, philosophies, nations, institutions, economies, technologies, celebrities, fictional characters, and archetypes all arrive with maps. Everyone points. Everyone knows. No one knows the whole.
Still, Truth shows up. Wonder remains on the throne, protected by tricksters who have become experienced fools. They do not guard certainty. They guard the openness that certainty keeps trying to capture.
What this image shows
The Child sits on a throne of Wonder, surrounded by Faith, Knowledge, Wisdom, and Proof. The experienced fools and tricksters keep that openness from being captured. Every other figure represents a partial way of knowing. Truth arrives through the whole unfinished process.
WONDER IS THE THRONE
The Child is protected by experienced fools.
They are not fools because they know nothing. They are fools because they have seen the limits of knowing and still choose play, question, and return.
“To catch a genius, send an experienced fool.”
THE SPIRAL RETURNS
One face.
Many voices.
Again.
The person is not a solved object. The person is a meeting that can learn how to meet itself.
